Hull City have completed the signing of German forward Ilyas Ansah from Union Berlin in a major transfer that strengthens the Premier League club’s attacking options.

The 21 year old forward has joined Hull City on a permanent deal, with the transfer reported to be worth between €21 million and €24 million depending on the final value of performance related payments.

Ansah’s move represents a significant piece of business for Union Berlin, who signed the striker from Paderborn only last year. His departure has provided the German club with a substantial financial return after just one season in the Bundesliga.

The forward made his Hull City debut in the club’s Premier League match against Coventry City on August 29, coming into a squad that has made an impressive start to its first season back in the English top flight. Hull defeated Coventry 1 0, with Ansah among the new arrivals involved in the club’s early campaign.

Ansah began his professional career at Paderborn before moving to Union Berlin in 2025. He quickly attracted attention after scoring twice on his Bundesliga debut against Stuttgart, making an immediate impact at the start of his first season in Germany.

Although his goalscoring numbers later settled, Ansah remained an important attacking option for Union Berlin and finished the 2025/26 Bundesliga campaign with five goals from 31 league appearances.

His performances also earned him recognition at international youth level. Ansah has represented Germany at Under 20 and Under 21 level and is regarded as one of the country’s promising young attacking players.

Standing at around 1.94 metres, Ansah combines physical strength with pace and attacking movement. His ability to operate as a central striker gives Hull another option in the final third as the club prepares for the demands of Premier League football.

Hull moved decisively for the striker after several days of negotiations with Union Berlin. The English club reportedly submitted an offer of around €22 million, with the agreement eventually completed for a package that could rise depending on bonuses.

The transfer also represents an important investment for Hull as the club looks to build a squad capable of competing in the Premier League. Ansah joins a number of new arrivals as manager Sergej Jakirovic continues to reshape the team.

For Ansah, the move offers an opportunity to establish himself in English football and test his abilities in one of the most competitive leagues in Europe.

His arrival also gives Hull greater depth in attack, with the club hoping his combination of youth, physical presence and Bundesliga experience can translate into goals and assists in the Premier League.

Union Berlin, meanwhile, will now have to find a replacement for a player who leaves after only one season, with the sizeable transfer fee providing the club with resources to strengthen its squad.

Ansah’s move to Hull marks another important step in the career of a forward who has progressed rapidly from German youth football to the Bundesliga and now the Premier League.
