Zenith Bank has confirmed that hackers breached its database, resulting in the compromise of limited customer information in what the lender described as part of a wider global cyberattack targeting organisations across multiple sectors.

According to the bank, the attackers gained access to limited customer details, including email addresses and phone numbers. However, it assured customers that its banking services and digital platforms remain secure and fully operational, with no disruption to banking activities.

Zenith Bank said it immediately activated its incident response protocols and cybersecurity measures upon detecting the breach, adding that investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the incident.

The bank also advised customers to remain vigilant against phishing emails, text messages and fraudulent phone calls, warning them never to disclose passwords, Personal Identification Numbers (PINs), One Time Passwords (OTPs) or other security credentials to anyone.

While reassuring customers of its commitment to protecting their information, the bank thanked them for their continued trust and cooperation as efforts continue to address the incident.

The development comes nearly two years after Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) reported an attempted cyberattack on its website domain in 2024, and follows an earlier warning by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) about cybercriminals circulating fake emails and messages designed to steal sensitive customer information.
