The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has recorded 276 cases of alleged human rights violations in Adamawa State between January and June 2026.
The NHRC Coordinator in Adamawa State, Grace Mamza, disclosed this in Yola, noting that the reported cases involved various forms of rights abuses affecting individuals and families across the state.
According to her, the commission resolved 84 of the reported cases, while 12 cases remain pending. Nine cases were referred to relevant authorities, with others still undergoing investigation and follow-up processes.
She listed some of the complaints received by the commission to include inheritance disputes, forced marriage, family abandonment, threats to life, domestic violence, unlawful arrest and detention, non-payment of benefits and entitlements, defilement, denial of healthcare access, child-related issues, inhuman treatment, violation of human dignity, and denial of fair hearing.
Mamza said the commission has intensified public awareness campaigns in schools, communities, and religious centres as part of efforts to reduce human rights abuses and encourage citizens to seek lawful remedies.
She urged residents whose rights have been violated to report such cases to the commission for appropriate action rather than resorting to self-help.
The NHRC reiterated its commitment to protecting fundamental human rights and promoting justice, dignity, and respect for the rule of law across Adamawa State and Nigeria.
