The Anambra State Government has launched a free fibroid surgery programme under Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s healthcare initiative, aimed at expanding access to quality medical care for women across the state.
The programme provides eligible women with free surgical treatment for uterine fibroids, helping to reduce the financial burden of the procedure while improving access to essential reproductive healthcare services.
According to the state government, the initiative is part of the Soludo administration’s broader healthcare reform agenda focused on strengthening public health services, enhancing maternal healthcare, and ensuring residents have access to essential medical treatment regardless of their financial circumstances.
Women experiencing symptoms commonly associated with uterine fibroids — including prolonged or heavy menstrual bleeding, pelvic pain, abdominal swelling, or fertility challenges — are encouraged to visit designated government hospitals for medical evaluation and eligibility screening.
Uterine fibroids are non-cancerous growths that develop in or around the uterus and are among the most common reproductive health conditions affecting women of reproductive age. Although many cases can be managed through medication or regular monitoring, surgery is often recommended when symptoms become severe or significantly affect a patient’s quality of life.
The free surgery programme reflects the Soludo administration’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery, expanding access to specialized medical services, and enhancing women’s reproductive health across Anambra State. By removing financial barriers to treatment, the initiative is expected to help more women receive timely medical care and improve overall health outcomes.
