The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has announced plans to conduct a mock presidential election and carry out a comprehensive audit of its electoral technology systems as part of preparations for the 2027 general election. The exercise is aimed at testing the commission’s election processes and identifying possible technical or operational challenges before the actual polls.

INEC Chairman, Joash Amupitan, said the mock exercise is intended to improve the credibility, transparency and efficiency of the electoral process. The commission said lessons from the 2023 general election, particularly concerns over technology and result transmission, are being used to strengthen preparations for 2027.

According to INEC, the mock poll will help evaluate the performance of its electronic systems, improve staff readiness and boost public confidence in the conduct of future elections.
