Abuja – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to receive governors from the North-East region on a special appreciation visit following the renomination of Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The visit, which is expected to bring together leaders from the six states of the North-East, is aimed at expressing gratitude to President Tinubu for retaining Shettima on the presidential ticket and strengthening the bond between the Federal Government and the region.

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State is expected to lead the delegation of North-East governors during the visit. The development highlights the region’s recognition of Shettima’s continued role in the administration and its broader political significance ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Political observers say the decision to maintain the Tinubu–Shettima partnership is likely to remain a major talking point as political activities gradually intensify ahead of the next election cycle.

For the North-East, where Vice President Shettima has strong political roots, the renomination is being viewed by supporters as an opportunity to maintain regional representation at the highest level of government.

The planned meeting also provides an opportunity for the governors and the Presidency to discuss issues affecting the region, including development, security, infrastructure, agriculture, and economic growth.

The Tinubu administration has continued to emphasise collaboration with state governments in addressing national challenges and implementing policies aimed at improving the welfare of citizens.

As political preparations ahead of 2027 continue to gather momentum, the North-East governors’ visit is expected to attract attention as a reflection of the region’s political alignment and its role in shaping Nigeria’s future electoral landscape.
