Troops of the Joint Task Force North-West, Operation Fansan Yamma, have repelled a terrorist ambush along the Anka–Guruzu Road in Zamfara State as military operations continue against armed groups operating across the region.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, October 28, when troops from Sector 2 came under attack while conducting a fighting patrol to clear the road following reports of terrorist activities.
The attackers reportedly launched a coordinated ambush from both sides of the route. However, the troops returned fire, forcing the assailants to retreat.
Captain Tamuno Sinivie, the task force’s Media Information Officer, said the soldiers subsequently secured the road and restored movement for commuters.
One soldier sustained a gunshot injury during the encounter and was evacuated for medical treatment. The military said the injured personnel was in stable condition.
In a separate operation in Takasaba village, Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State, troops foiled an attempted livestock theft and abduction. The operation resulted in the rescue of two herders, identified as Malam Sulaiman, 50, and Nasiru Sulaiman, 14, and the recovery of 520 livestock.
The rescued victims were handed over to local authorities.
The Theatre Commander of Operation Fansan Yamma, Major General W.B. Idris, commended the troops and urged residents to provide credible information to security agencies.
The operations underscore continuing efforts to secure vulnerable communities and major transport routes across the North-West. Sustained patrols and cooperation between residents and security agencies remain important to addressing threats from armed groups.
