Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya has praised the Gunners’ remarkable response to their surprise 3-0 defeat to Brighton, describing their recovery as “incredible” after securing three consecutive victories.
Mikel Arteta’s side returned from the international break in impressive form, winning all three matches as they prepare for Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League showdown with Bayern Munich.
Their latest success came on Sunday, when Noni Madueke’s deflected 80th-minute strike secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.
Reflecting on the team’s turnaround, Raya said the squad had responded strongly despite having 19 days to wait before returning to competitive action following the Brighton setback.
“The way we responded, the way we played, the way we came back, is incredible,” the Spanish goalkeeper said.
He added that while there remained areas to improve, the team was encouraged by its performances and focused on the challenge ahead against Bayern.
Arsenal managed only one shot on target against Forest, but Madueke’s late effort highlighted their ability to grind out results even when their attacking play is not at its best.
Raya described the victory as evidence of the team’s maturity, determination and character, recalling previous occasions when Arsenal had been held to goalless draws at the same venue.
He praised Madueke for delivering the decisive moment, describing the winger as a special player and expressing delight that his goal secured victory at a difficult ground.
Arsenal will now turn their attention to Bayern Munich, hoping to maintain their momentum and extend their winning run in Europe’s premier club competition.
