Enugu Rangers International have petitioned the Confederation of African Football (CAF) over alleged vandalism and disorder involving visiting supporters during and after their CAF Champions League clash against MC Alger in Abeokuta on Sunday.
The Nigerian champions defeated the Algerian side 2-0 in the first leg of their second-round qualifying tie at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena. However, the encounter was followed by reports of violence, with supporters allegedly damaging stadium seats and attacking an assistant coach.
In a statement published on the club’s Facebook page, Rangers said they had formally reported the incidents to CAF, citing the alleged destruction of a stadium entrance gate, unauthorised entry without payment of gate fees, vandalised seats and other acts of disorder.
The club called on the continental governing body to intervene and consider appropriate precautionary measures ahead of the return fixture in Algiers on Friday, October 23, 2026.
“Rangers International FC remains committed to fair play, respect for football regulations and the safety of players, officials, supporters and all stakeholders,” the statement said.
The club also expressed confidence in CAF’s established procedures and said it was awaiting a response to its petition.
Rangers urged their supporters to remain calm and disciplined as the team prepares for the decisive second leg, where it will seek to protect its two-goal advantage and secure progression in the competition.
The alleged incidents have raised concerns over stadium security and spectator conduct at continental club competitions. Any disciplinary action will depend on CAF’s consideration of the reported events and available evidence.
