Venezia coach Davide Nicola believes Nigerian striker Akor Adams has significant room for improvement after his decisive goal secured a 1-0 victory over Napoli in Serie A on Saturday.
Adams struck in the 49th minute at the Stadio Pier Luigi Penzo, earning Venezia their first league points of the season and ending a six-match losing run. The victory also marked Nicola’s first game in charge following his appointment as Giovanni Stroppa’s replacement.
Despite praising the Super Eagles forward’s contribution, Nicola insisted that his focus remained on the team while highlighting Adams’ potential.
“I don’t like talking about individuals. Adams puts his soul into it; he has very important qualities, and he helps the team. Akor has crazy margins for improvement,” the coach said after the match.
Adams welcomed the manager’s assessment, admitting that he still has plenty to learn as he seeks to develop his game in Italy.
“I thank the coach; I don’t set limits for myself, I have a lot to learn to grow. Here in Venice, I can improve; the coach has come to help Venezia and me,” the striker said
The Nigerian also praised Nicola’s clear instructions, particularly regarding intensity, defensive organisation and transitions between attack and defence.
Adams’ match-winning contribution, alongside a strong performance from goalkeeper Filip Stanković, provided a timely boost for Venezia as they look to rebuild confidence and establish greater consistency under their new coach.
For Adams, the goal represents an opportunity to build momentum and fulfil the potential Nicola believes he possesses.
