Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has praised teachers across the state for their dedication, sacrifices and commitment to educating the next generation.

In a message marking the 2026 World Teachers’ Day, Okpebholo described teachers as vital to the development of society and assured them that his administration would continue to prioritise their welfare and improve the education sector.

The governor said teachers play an important role beyond the classroom by shaping the values, skills and character of future leaders. He added that quality education depends on motivated and adequately supported educators.

Okpebholo disclosed that his administration had absorbed 5,000 contract teachers into the state civil service to improve their job security, while 6,000 additional teachers had been recruited to address staffing shortages in public schools.

He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to investing in teachers, schools and the broader education system, ensuring pupils have access to qualified teachers in both urban and rural communities.
