The Northern Senators Forum has called on the Federal Government and Defence Headquarters to urgently strengthen security along the Kopre-Sambisa corridor in Adamawa State following recent insurgent attacks in the area.
The call followed attacks on the 226 Battalion in Garkida and the 232 Battalion in Garaha, within Hong and Gombi Local Government Areas. The incidents reportedly resulted in the deaths of soldiers, a forest guard and civilians, while several communities were affected by killings, abductions, destruction of property and displacement.
In a statement signed by the forum’s Chairman, Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua, the lawmakers urged the Federal Government to adopt a coordinated and proactive strategy to address insurgent enclaves along the corridor.
The senators also appealed to the National Emergency Management Agency, the North-East Development Commission and other humanitarian agencies to provide relief materials, medical assistance and other support to displaced residents.
They urged people in the affected communities to remain vigilant and provide security agencies with timely and useful information that could help prevent further attacks.
The forum expressed solidarity with the people of Adamawa and called for sustained efforts to restore peace and enable displaced families to safely return to their communities.
