Makinde Rejects ₦50bn FG Support Claim for Ibadan Airport, Demands Mining Devolution

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has denied claims that the Federal Government provided ₦50 billion in support for the development of Ibadan Airport.

Makinde said the state government’s efforts to improve the airport should not be attributed to the alleged federal funding, stressing the need for clarity over the source of financing for major infrastructure projects.

The governor also called for greater devolution of powers in the mining sector, arguing that states should have a stronger role in managing and benefiting from mineral resources within their territories.

He said greater control over mineral resources could create more opportunities for economic development, investment and job creation at the state level.
