The Katsina State Police Command has repelled a bandit attack in Dutsin-Ma Local Government Area of the state, rescuing four kidnapped victims, including a nursing baby.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday when armed bandits attacked Makwanta village and abducted three female residents.
Following a distress call received at about 12.22am, the Divisional Police Officer mobilised police operatives to the area. The team tracked the fleeing bandits and intercepted them along the Dutsin-Ma-Danmusa border, where a gun battle ensued.
The police said the bandits were overpowered and fled into the surrounding bush with suspected gunshot wounds.
The rescued victims were identified as 14-year-old Marawiya Musa, 50-year-old Mariya Ibrahim, 21-year-old Amina Ibrahim and a nursing baby. All four victims were rescued unhurt.
The operatives also recovered an AK-47 rifle loaded with five rounds of live ammunition, a mobile phone, three MP3 players, a knife and three wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
The Katsina State Commissioner of Police, Ali Umar Fage, commended the officers involved in the operation and urged residents to remain vigilant and provide timely information to security agencies.
Efforts are ongoing to track and arrest the fleeing suspects.
