The Director General of the Poverty Alleviation and Wealth Creation Agency, PAWECA, Dr. Michael Zira, has called on Nigerian youths to embrace technical and vocational skills as alternatives to the limited opportunities in white collar employment.
Zira made the call on Tuesday in Yola while receiving members of the Coalition of Concern Adamawa State APC Youths Advocate, who paid a courtesy visit to his office.
The PAWECA Director General said excessive dependence on government employment had left many young people unproductive, despite the availability of opportunities in skills acquisition, entrepreneurship and other areas of self employment.
He also encouraged youths to take an active role in politics, describing participation as both a civic responsibility and an avenue to contribute meaningfully to national development.
Zira appreciated the coalition for its support and commendation of his leadership at PAWECA. He also urged members to promote the APC through vigorous but issue based campaigns, while avoiding bitterness and divisive politics.
Earlier, the coalition’s Chairman, Mr. Rabiu Saad, said the visit was aimed at appreciating Zira’s leadership and recognising his achievements in office. He highlighted integrity, transparency, accountability, selfless service, peace and unity as qualities that had earned the DG the group’s support.
The coalition pledged continued support for the PAWECA leadership, with the visit culminating in the presentation of an award to Dr. Zira in recognition of his track record in public service.
