Landon Emenalo, son of former Super Eagles defender and ex-Chelsea technical director Michael Emenalo, has joined Scottish giants Celtic on loan from Chelsea for the 2026/27 season.

The 18-year-old defender and midfielder will spend the campaign in Scotland as he looks to gain valuable senior experience and continue his development away from Chelsea’s academy setup.

Emenalo’s move to Celtic comes after the teenager was given an opportunity to train and feature with Chelsea’s senior squad during their pre-season tour of Asia and Australia.

He made an appearance for Xabi Alonso’s side during their victory over A-League club Western Sydney Wanderers, further highlighting the progress he has made through Chelsea’s youth system.

Chelsea believe the loan move will provide Emenalo with the competitive environment required to take the next step in his development.

“Landon will gain valuable top-flight experience in Scotland,” Chelsea said in a statement, while wishing the academy graduate well during his spell with Celtic.

Emenalo joined Chelsea’s academy at the age of seven and has spent more than a decade progressing through the club’s youth ranks.

He enjoyed an impressive 2025/26 campaign with Chelsea Under-21s, becoming a regular starter as the team finished top of the Premier League 2 table.

The teenager was also part of Chelsea Under-18s’ successful campaign, helping the side win the national championship after defeating Manchester City in the play-off final at Stamford Bridge.

His versatility is considered one of his key strengths, with the youngster capable of operating in both defensive and midfield positions.

The move to Celtic now represents a major step in Emenalo’s development, as he prepares to test himself in senior football and compete for regular first-team opportunities in Scotland.

Chelsea will continue to monitor his progress throughout the loan spell, with the club hoping that regular exposure to top-level football will accelerate his development.

For Emenalo, the Celtic switch also offers an opportunity to build on his impressive rise through Chelsea’s academy and begin establishing himself at senior level.
