Borno State Commissioner for Poverty Alleviation, Youth and Sports Development, Saina Buba, has apologised and retracted controversial remarks that sparked criticism over their perceived threat to opposition supporters.
Buba issued the apology in Maiduguri on Wednesday, September 2, saying his comments during an empowerment programme organised by the City Boy Movement were not intended to undermine citizens’ constitutional rights to freedom of choice and association.
He said the remark did not represent the position of the All Progressives Congress or the administration of Governor Babagana Zulum.
The development followed public criticism and police scrutiny of statements considered capable of inciting political tension ahead of the 2027 elections.
