The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has officially invited 3,852 newly recruited candidates to participate in its screening exercise scheduled to take place in Abuja. The announcement, made on Monday, marks a significant step in the Service’s ongoing recruitment process aimed at strengthening its workforce and enhancing border security operations.

According to the NCS, the screening will involve a thorough verification of documents, physical fitness assessments, and interviews to ensure that only qualified candidates proceed to the next stage of training. Officials emphasized that the exercise is designed to uphold transparency and meritocracy, assuring the public that recruitment will be strictly based on competence and integrity.

The Service explained that the shortlisted candidates were selected from thousands of applicants who had earlier undergone aptitude tests and preliminary evaluations. The screening exercise in Abuja is expected to last several days, with candidates advised to adhere strictly to the guidelines provided in their invitation letters.

Speaking on the development, a senior Customs officer noted that the recruitment drive is part of broader reforms aimed at modernizing the Service. “We are committed to building a professional workforce that can effectively tackle smuggling, improve revenue collection, and safeguard Nigeria’s borders,” the officer said.

Stakeholders have welcomed the move, describing it as timely given the increasing challenges of border management and the need for more personnel to handle enforcement duties. Analysts argue that the recruitment of fresh officers will not only boost manpower but also inject new energy into the Service’s operations.

Candidates have been urged to present themselves with valid identification, original credentials, and necessary documentation during the screening. The NCS warned against any attempt to falsify records, stressing that such actions would lead to immediate disqualification and possible prosecution.

The Customs Service also reassured Nigerians that the recruitment process remains free of charge, cautioning applicants against falling victim to fraudsters who may attempt to exploit the exercise.
