The United Kingdom has issued a fresh travel advisory warning its citizens against all travel to parts of 11 Nigerian states and urging travellers to undertake only essential journeys to several other parts of the country.
The advisory, issued by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), cited rising insecurity, terrorism, kidnapping, violent crime and intercommunal clashes across parts of Nigeria.
The UK advised against all travel to Borno, Yobe, Adamawa and Gombe states in the North-East, as well as Katsina and Zamfara states in the North-West.
It also warned against all travel to riverine areas of Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Cross River states, describing the affected locations as river and swamp areas accessible by boat but not by road.
The FCDO further placed several states, including Bauchi, Kaduna, Kano, Kebbi, Jigawa, Sokoto, Niger, Kogi, Plateau, Taraba, Kwara and Benue, under its “all but essential travel” advisory.
The UK government said travellers should exercise caution and carefully assess security conditions before travelling, stressing that no journey can be guaranteed to be completely safe.
The latest advisory reflects growing security concerns in several regions of Nigeria and serves as a warning to British nationals planning to visit or travel within the country.
