The presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) for the 2027 general elections, Prince Adewole Adebayo, has pledged to tackle insecurity, unemployment and widespread poverty if elected president.

Adebayo, who emerged as the party’s presidential candidate at its national convention in Bauchi, said his administration would prioritise security, job creation, economic productivity and improved living standards for Nigerians. Multiple reports on his emergence and campaign agenda identify him as the SDP’s 2027 presidential flag bearer.

He said Nigeria’s economic and security challenges were largely linked to weak governance, poor management of national resources and the failure to build institutions capable of delivering basic services to citizens.

According to him, his administration would pursue a people-centred development agenda designed to create employment opportunities while strengthening the productive capacity of the economy.

Adebayo has proposed the creation of millions of jobs through agriculture, manufacturing, digital innovation, entrepreneurship and other productive sectors. He has also spoken of reviving moribund industries and expanding industrial activities across the country as part of efforts to reduce unemployment and stimulate economic growth.

On security, the SDP candidate said protecting lives and property would be treated as a fundamental responsibility of government. He has linked insecurity to unemployment, poor social conditions and institutional weaknesses, arguing that a comprehensive approach is required to restore stability across the country.

He also promised to strengthen public institutions and improve accountability in governance, saying government resources should be directed towards programmes that have a direct impact on the welfare of citizens.

Adebayo has criticised the worsening cost of living and the difficulty many Nigerians face in accessing food, healthcare and education. He argued that abundant natural and human resources had not translated into improved living standards because of longstanding governance and economic management problems.

As part of his broader economic strategy, the SDP candidate has proposed measures aimed at reducing poverty, expanding access to education and healthcare, supporting businesses and developing infrastructure needed to attract investment.

He has also set ambitious employment targets, including a plan to create millions of jobs and provide greater opportunities for young Nigerians through skills development, entrepreneurship and industrial expansion.

Adebayo said his political agenda would focus on building institutions that work for ordinary Nigerians rather than concentrating government attention on political interests.

With insecurity and unemployment remaining major concerns ahead of the 2027 elections, the SDP candidate said Nigerians would have an opportunity to choose a different direction based on accountability, economic inclusion and effective governance.

He urged citizens to support a political system that prioritises national development, social welfare and equal opportunities, promising that an SDP-led government would place the welfare and security of Nigerians at the centre of its policies.
