The spokesperson of the Imole Campaign Council in Osun State, Pelumi Olajengbesi, has demanded a public retraction and apology from Senator Francis Fadahunsi over alleged defamatory statements made against him during television interviews.
According to a report by The Guardian, Olajengbesi, through his lawyer, Hammed Lasisi, issued a letter of demand and notice of intention to commence legal proceedings against the senator over alleged defamation and injurious falsehood.
The lawyer alleged that Fadahunsi made statements questioning Olajengbesi’s identity and origin and further accused him of sponsoring and associating with thugs and members of the Eiye and Aye cult groups.
The allegations were reportedly made during interviews on Viable TV and Channels Television’s Politics Today, where the senator allegedly linked Olajengbesi to the late Ajayi Aderogba, also known as Rogba.
Olajengbesi denied the allegations, describing them as false, defamatory and damaging to his personal, professional and political reputation.
He maintained that the allegation of sponsoring cultists and individuals involved in acts of terror amounted to an accusation of criminal conduct, which he said was incompatible with his position as a legal practitioner and public figure.
Through his lawyer, Olajengbesi gave Fadahunsi 24 hours to retract the alleged statements, tender a public apology and refrain from making further statements capable of damaging his reputation.
He warned that failure to comply with the demand would lead to legal action, including a claim for N10 billion in damages for alleged defamation.
