The Poverty Alleviation and Wealth Creation Agency (PAWECA) has inaugurated a nine member Technical Committee to develop the implementation framework for the “Fintiri from Retirement to Wealth” initiative, a programme designed to equip retiring and retired civil servants in Adamawa State with practical skills for sustainable livelihoods.

The committee was constituted following the submission of reports by assessment teams that inspected livestock centres across the 21 local government areas of the state as part of preparations for the programme.

Speaking during the inauguration, the Director General of PAWECA, Dr Michael Zira, said the committee has been tasked with evaluating existing facilities, determining the cost of implementing the programme, and recommending the infrastructure and resources required for its immediate rollout.

He directed the committee to submit its report on or before August 20, 2026, noting that members should focus on costing critical components of the initiative, including livestock farming, animal feed production and food processing, which form the core training areas of the programme.

Dr Zira explained that the committee would revisit previously assessed livestock centres to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of facilities needed to ensure the successful takeoff of the initiative.

He further disclosed that the committee’s final report would be presented to Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri and transformed into a policy document for consideration by the Adamawa State House of Assembly to guarantee the programme’s continuity beyond the current administration.

According to the PAWECA Director General, the “Fintiri from Retirement to Wealth” initiative will position Adamawa as the first state in Nigeria to deliberately prepare civil servants approaching retirement, as well as retirees, with practical entrepreneurial skills that will enable them to build sustainable sources of income after leaving public service.

Dr Zira urged members of the committee, chaired by Consultant Mr Joseph Jaryum, to carry out the assignment with diligence, commitment and professionalism, stressing that the initiative is central to Governor Fintiri’s vision of reducing poverty and promoting wealth creation across the state.
