Samsung Electronics has introduced a new generation of its flagship foldable smartphone featuring a wider display, while raising prices as increasing semiconductor costs continue to pressure manufacturers.

The latest foldable device offers a broader external screen, upgraded artificial intelligence features and improved durability, reflecting Samsung’s effort to strengthen its position in the premium smartphone market. The company said higher component costs, particularly for advanced chips and displays, contributed to the price increase.

Samsung executives said the new foldable phone is designed to improve productivity and multimedia performance, with enhancements to multitasking capabilities, battery efficiency and camera technology. The wider display aims to provide a more conventional smartphone experience when the device is folded while retaining the benefits of a larger screen when unfolded.

The launch comes as global smartphone makers increasingly focus on foldable devices and AI powered features to encourage consumers to upgrade amid slowing demand for traditional smartphones. Analysts said Samsung remains the world’s leading foldable phone maker but faces growing competition from Chinese manufacturers offering similar devices at lower prices.

Industry experts noted that rising costs for advanced semiconductor chips, memory and display components have squeezed profit margins across the electronics sector, prompting manufacturers to pass some of the increased costs on to consumers.

Samsung said the new foldable smartphone will be rolled out in key global markets in the coming weeks, with pre orders beginning immediately in several countries.
