The Emir of Zuru, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi Mika’ilu Sami Gomo III, has expressed support for the Kebbi State Government’s free farm input policy, describing the initiative as a significant step towards boosting agricultural productivity and improving the livelihoods of farmers across the state.
The traditional ruler, while commending the government for prioritising agriculture, urged relevant authorities to ensure that the distribution of farm inputs is carried out transparently and equitably. He stressed the need for the benefits of the programme to reach genuine farmers, particularly smallholder farmers who depend heavily on agriculture for their livelihoods.
According to him, transparent distribution would strengthen public confidence in the initiative and ensure that the government’s intervention achieves its intended objectives. The Emir also called on community leaders, agricultural stakeholders and beneficiaries to support the government in ensuring that the farm inputs are properly distributed and used for their intended purpose.
He noted that agriculture remains a major driver of economic development and food security, adding that policies aimed at supporting farmers should be sustained and strengthened. The Emir further encouraged farmers to make effective use of the inputs provided to increase food production and contribute to the state’s agricultural development.
The Kebbi State Government’s free farm policy is expected to support farmers by reducing the cost of agricultural production and encouraging more people to engage in farming. The Emir’s call for transparency is seen as an appeal for accountability in the implementation of the programme, with stakeholders expected to work together to ensure that the initiative benefits the communities it was designed to serve.
