The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the commencement of the distribution of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to eligible voters in Osun State ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
According to a report by The Guardian, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Osun State, Mrs Oluwatoyin Babalola, said the exercise is aimed at enabling newly registered voters, those who transferred their voter registration, applied for replacement of lost or damaged cards, or updated their records during the recently concluded Continuous Voter Registration exercise to collect their PVCs.
Babalola said the distribution will begin at the Registration Area level across the state from July 22 to July 28, 2026, between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. daily, including weekends.
She added that after the Registration Area phase, the exercise will continue at all INEC Local Government Area offices from July 29 to August 7, 2026, also between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. daily, including weekends.
The REC urged all eligible voters to collect their Permanent Voter Cards within the stipulated period, stressing that the PVC remains the only valid means of accreditation for voting in the forthcoming governorship election.
She also disclosed that uncollected PVCs from previous voter registration exercises would be made available during the distribution, providing eligible voters with another opportunity to retrieve their cards.
Babalola, however, warned that the collection of PVCs is strictly personal, noting that collection by proxy is prohibited under the Electoral Act and will not be permitted.
She reaffirmed INEC’s commitment to conducting a free, fair, credible, inclusive and transparent governorship election, and advised members of the public requiring further information to visit the nearest INEC Local Government Area office or contact the Osun State office through its official communication channels.
