The police in Anambra State have arraigned three suspects over allegations of incest and the defilement of minors, authorities have confirmed.
According to the police, the suspects were brought before a court on separate charges related to sexual offences involving underage victims. The cases have drawn public concern and renewed calls for stronger measures to protect children from abuse and exploitation.
Police authorities stated that investigations were carried out before the suspects were formally charged in court. They reiterated their commitment to ensuring justice for victims of sexual and gender-based violence and urged members of the public to report cases of abuse promptly.
Child rights advocates have also condemned the incidents, describing them as disturbing and calling for strict enforcement of laws designed to protect children and punish offenders.
The police further assured residents that they would continue to work with relevant agencies and stakeholders to combat sexual offences and create a safer environment for children across the state.
The cases are expected to proceed through the judicial process, with the suspects presumed innocent until proven guilty by a competent court.
