Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has flagged off the 2026 Integrated Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC) and Insecticide Treated Net (ITN) campaign, aimed at reducing the burden of malaria across the state.

Under the campaign, more than 1.15 million residents are expected to benefit from the distribution of 2.583 million insecticide-treated mosquito nets, while 4.5 million doses of antimalarial medicines have been procured for children aged 3 to 59 months under the Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention programme.

Representing the governor at the launch, the Deputy Governor, Prof. Kaletapwa Farauta, described the campaign as a major milestone in the state’s collective fight against malaria.

She said the initiative underscores the government’s commitment to protecting the health of its citizens, particularly vulnerable groups such as children under the age of five and pregnant women, who remain the most affected by the disease.

Farauta noted that malaria continues to be one of the leading causes of illness and death in Nigeria and across sub-Saharan Africa, despite ongoing efforts to control its spread.

According to her, the Adamawa State Government recognises the devastating impact of malaria on families and communities and will continue to prioritise effective and sustainable interventions aimed at reducing infections and saving lives.
