West Ham United have appointed former club captain Scott Parker as their new head coach, following the dismissal of Nuno Espírito Santo on Tuesday. The club confirmed the appointment in a statement on Wednesday, announcing that Parker had signed a two-and-a-half-year contract.
The 46-year-old is expected to take charge of the team for Wednesday evening’s EFL Championship match against Cardiff City. Parker returns to West Ham after managing Fulham, AFC Bournemouth and Burnley, guiding all three clubs to promotion from the Championship to the Premier League. He secured promotion with Fulham in 2020, Bournemouth in 2022 and Burnley in 2025. He also won the EFL Championship Manager of the Season award for the 2024/25 campaign while managing Burnley.
During his playing career at West Ham, Parker made 129 appearances between 2007 and 2011. He won the club’s Hammer of the Year award three consecutive times and received the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year award for the 2010/11 season. He will work alongside first-team coaches Steve Potts, Gerard Prenderville and Billy Lepine, while former teammate Mark Noble will also support him. The club said further information about the permanent backroom staff structure would be announced later.
Speaking about his return, Parker described the appointment as a proud moment, highlighting his strong connection with the club and its supporters. He said he was excited about the opportunity and committed to using his experience of the Championship to help West Ham return to the Premier League. Parker also said he shared the ambition of the club’s leadership to secure promotion as quickly as possible, stressing the importance of consistency and commitment throughout the campaign.
West Ham announced Nuno’s departure on Tuesday after reviewing the club’s performance at the start of the Championship season. The club also confirmed that assistant head coach Rui Pedro Silva and goalkeeping coach Rui Barbosa had left their positions. Nuno joined West Ham in September 2025 after leaving Nottingham Forest, but his tenure ended following the club’s assessment of its performances.
