The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two men suspected of drug trafficking and recovered 69 blocks of dried leaves believed to be Indian hemp in Itas/Gadau Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects, identified as Shu’aibu Umar, 35, and Isah Ibrahim, 20, were arrested on September 21, 2026, following an intelligence-led operation by police officers attached to the Gadau Division.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed that officers intercepted a black Sharon Wagon along Sharfolli village in Atafowa District at about 3 p.m. after receiving information that the vehicle was allegedly conveying illicit drugs.
A search reportedly led to the discovery of 69 blocks of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp concealed in bags of groundnuts.
Habib said the suspects were taken into custody and the recovered substances secured as exhibits.
He added that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The police command reiterated its commitment to tackling drug trafficking and other criminal activities across the state, urging residents to provide credible information that could assist law enforcement operations.
The recovery highlights the role of intelligence gathering and vehicle searches in detecting suspected illicit substances being transported through local communities.
Concealing suspected drugs among agricultural products can complicate detection efforts. However, the recovered material must be properly identified, and any allegations against the suspects must be established through due legal process.
