Nollywood actress Chita Agwu has announced the end of her 11-year marriage to her husband, Johnson Maduabuchi, revealing that their union has been legally dissolved by a court.

The actress made the announcement in a statement shared on her Instagram page on Monday, October 19, 2026, explaining that she was ready to begin a new chapter of her life.

Agwu described the development as the end of a significant chapter in her life, saying she had chosen to move forward with peace, grace and dignity.

She said marriage was a personal journey and acknowledged that not every relationship ended as couples had initially hoped.

The actress also stressed that people whose marriages had ended deserved the opportunity to move forward without facing public judgment, ridicule or humiliation.

According to her, she would not disclose the circumstances surrounding the dissolution of her marriage or engage in public discussions about the matter.

“Out of respect for everyone involved, I will not be sharing private details or engaging in public discussions about the circumstances surrounding my divorce,” she stated.

Agwu subsequently appealed to the public to respect her privacy and that of her former husband as they adjusted to the development.

She expressed appreciation to those who had supported her throughout her journey, noting that she intended to concentrate on healing and personal growth rather than controversy.

The actress further explained that the end of her marriage would not prevent her from moving forward with her life and embracing future opportunities.

“My marriage has ended, but my life continues. I move forward with my head held high, my dignity intact, and my heart open to the future,” she said.

Agwu and Maduabuchi held their traditional wedding ceremony in October 2014 in Ebonyi State before celebrating their white wedding in June 2015.

Their marriage lasted approximately 11 years before its dissolution.

In a 2023 interview, the actress reportedly disclosed that her husband proposed to her four days after they met in person.

Agwu also spoke about taking a break from acting for about three years following her marriage before returning to the entertainment industry.

The actress has not publicly disclosed the reasons behind the dissolution of the marriage, maintaining that she would prefer to keep the details private.

Her announcement has drawn public attention to the end of the couple’s long-standing relationship, with the actress urging fans and well-wishers to respect the privacy of both parties.
