Former Kano State Governor, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, has vowed to mobilise voters across Northern Nigeria to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

Shekarau made the pledge while leading prominent northern political leaders under the Arewa for Asiwaju movement to meet with the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.

The group said it would work across the 19 northern states and the Federal Capital Territory to increase voter participation and secure more votes for Tinubu and other APC candidates.

Shekarau explained that the movement was established to strengthen grassroots mobilisation, address voter apathy and improve the party’s electoral performance in the region.

He said the group had examined previous election results, identified areas where the party recorded low voter turnout and developed strategies to address the challenges.

According to him, the movement aims to increase the number of votes recorded for the APC in the North compared with previous elections.

Shekarau also stated that the initiative was not intended to create divisions between Northern and Southern Nigeria but to promote national development and support the success of the APC across the country.

He disclosed that the group had established 20 directorates and appointed coordinators at state, local government and ward levels to coordinate its activities.

The movement also plans to publicise projects and programmes implemented by the Tinubu administration in Northern Nigeria, which its leaders believe are not sufficiently known to residents.

APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, welcomed the initiative and pledged the party’s cooperation with the group ahead of the elections.

Former Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong, who serves as deputy chairman of the group’s Board of Trustees, also expressed support for the mobilisation effort.

The group is expected to work with the APC and other party structures as preparations intensify for the 2027 general elections.
