Advanced Micro Devices plans to substantially increase chip production in 2027 as demand for artificial intelligence hardware continues to outpace available supply, Chief Executive Lisa Su said on Tuesday, October 6.

Su made the comments during a visit to Taiwan, where she met key manufacturing partners as AMD works to expand its ability to produce central processing units and graphics processors.

The company has already increased supply during 2026 but expects demand for AI computing to remain strong for several years. Su said AMD is now planning three to five years ahead with suppliers to ensure production capacity expands alongside demand.

AMD is also working with memory manufacturers to secure supplies needed for AI servers and other computing products. Su is expected to meet major South Korean memory companies Samsung and SK Hynix during her visit to the country.

The chipmaker also needs additional advanced wafer capacity as it expands production. Taiwan remains central to that effort, with AMD working closely with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company and other suppliers.

AMD has become one of the main competitors to Nvidia in the rapidly expanding AI chip market. Its market value recently crossed $1 trillion as investors continued to bet on strong growth in AI-related computing.
