Apple is planning to expand further into the smart-home market with a new home hub reportedly set to launch on October 13, Bloomberg News reported Wednesday, citing people familiar with the plans. The device, internally known as J490, would mark Apple’s entry into a new smart-home product category.
The hub is expected to feature a compact touchscreen display that can be placed on a countertop or mounted on a wall. Reports indicate that Apple is designing the device around Siri AI, with features for controlling smart-home accessories, accessing media and communicating with people in the home.
Apple is also reportedly preparing the first update to its HomePod mini since its 2020 debut, alongside a new Apple TV model, potentially making October 13 the start of a broader refresh of the company’s home-device lineup. Apple has not yet confirmed the reported launch plans.
