The Nigerian Communications Commission has called for fresh investment in the telecommunications sector as data consumption in Nigeria continues to rise.
The commission said data consumption had increased by 47 per cent, reflecting growing demand for digital services, internet access and connectivity across the country.
The NCC said the rising demand underscored the need for continued investment in telecommunications infrastructure to expand network capacity and improve service quality.
It noted that sustained investment would be necessary to support Nigeria’s growing digital economy, particularly as more Nigerians depend on mobile internet for business, education, financial services and communication.
The commission also emphasised the importance of creating an environment that would attract additional investment into the sector.
According to the NCC, increased investment in infrastructure, including broadband networks and other digital facilities, would help telecommunications operators cope with rising traffic and improve access to reliable services.
The commission’s call comes amid efforts by stakeholders to strengthen Nigeria’s digital infrastructure and increase broadband penetration.
The NCC said collaboration between government, regulators, operators and investors remained important to achieving sustainable growth in the telecommunications industry.
