A new survey by SBM Intelligence has found that 67.4 per cent of respondents want the Federal Government to restore the petrol subsidy, reflecting growing concern over fuel prices and their impact on household finances.
The finding is contained in the second wave of the Nigeria 2027 Voter Sentiment Tracker, which surveyed 1,103 eligible voters through face-to-face interviews across 12 states and the Federal Capital Territory, covering the six geopolitical zones.
The report said petrol has emerged as the second-most cited national concern, accounting for 18.2 per cent of responses. The issue was particularly prominent in the South-West, where 30.5 per cent of respondents identified petrol as their leading concern, and the South-South, at 29.1 per cent.
The survey also recorded differences between rural and urban respondents, with 32.4 per cent of rural participants identifying petrol as their primary concern, compared with 11.7 per cent of urban respondents.
However, SBM Intelligence cautioned that the survey represents a snapshot of stated sentiment among those interviewed and does not adjust for historical voter turnout, population projections or voter-registration figures.
The findings come amid continuing debate over Nigeria’s petrol-pricing policy following the removal of the former subsidy regime and continuing pressure from fuel prices on transportation and household spending.
