The Bank of Industry (BOI) has set aside N2 billion to support young entrepreneurs as part of efforts to expand access to finance and encourage the growth of youth-led businesses across Nigeria.

The initiative is expected to provide funding opportunities for young Nigerians seeking to establish or expand businesses, particularly those with viable ideas but limited access to conventional financing.

The intervention forms part of broader efforts to promote entrepreneurship, create jobs and strengthen the contribution of small and growing businesses to the Nigerian economy.

Access to affordable financing remains a major challenge for many young business owners, with high operating costs and limited collateral often making it difficult to secure loans from traditional financial institutions.

The BOI funding is therefore expected to help eligible entrepreneurs acquire equipment, increase production, improve their operations and develop sustainable businesses.

Beyond providing capital, programmes targeting young entrepreneurs can also support economic participation by creating opportunities for skills development, innovation and employment.

The initiative comes amid continued government and private-sector efforts to improve financing for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, which account for a significant share of business activity and employment in Nigeria.

For beneficiaries, the availability of funding will be important, but the sustainability of the businesses will also depend on proper financial management, market access, business skills and the ability to withstand rising operating costs.

The BOI initiative is expected to contribute to efforts to build a stronger pipeline of youth-owned enterprises and increase the role of young Nigerians in economic development.
