The United States generally pays more for prescription medicines than other developed countries. Trump has repeatedly pledged to reduce the price gap and his administration has reached agreements with major drugmakers, including Pfizer, Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk, to offer lower prices comparable with those in other wealthy countries.
Medicaid already receives significant discounts from pharmaceutical companies under federal law, while most beneficiaries pay little for prescriptions.
