The Ogun State Government has commenced plans to remove an abandoned truck and a piling rig obstructing traffic on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The decision follows concerns over the safety risks posed by the heavy equipment, particularly to motorists travelling along one of the busiest highways connecting Ogun and Lagos states.
The state government said the move is part of efforts to improve road safety, reduce avoidable traffic disruptions and ensure that abandoned vehicles and equipment do not remain on major highways for prolonged periods.
The affected section of the expressway is a major transport corridor used daily by commuters, commercial vehicles and long-distance motorists. Any obstruction on the route can slow traffic and increase the risk of collisions, particularly during periods of heavy traffic or poor visibility.
Authorities are expected to work with relevant agencies and the operators or owners of the equipment to facilitate its safe removal from the roadway.
The development also highlights the broader challenge of abandoned and broken-down vehicles on major highways across the country. Such obstructions can create bottlenecks and expose motorists to additional hazards when they are left without adequate warning signs or traffic management.
Motorists using the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway have therefore been advised to exercise caution around the affected area and comply with traffic-management instructions while the removal operation is carried out.
The Ogun Government said maintaining unobstructed major roads remains important to the movement of people and goods and to reducing avoidable delays along the Lagos-Ibadan transport corridor.
