Germany has rejected calls to halt artificial intelligence development, saying a pause would not be a viable option for Europe as the technology continues to advance globally.

The German government said continued AI innovation is important for strengthening Europe’s digital sovereignty, while acknowledging growing concerns over the potential risks posed by increasingly autonomous AI systems.

Berlin also stressed the need for international cooperation, arguing that effective AI governance must involve major powers, particularly the United States and China. Germany plans to push for broader discussions on responsible AI development through the G7.

The position comes amid growing debate over whether governments and technology companies should slow the development of advanced AI systems to address safety and security concerns.
