U.S. President Donald Trump has dismissed growing concerns over the risks posed by artificial intelligence, describing critics as “very negative forces” raising scenarios he believes will not happen.
Speaking to reporters in Ireland, Trump said the United States must maintain its lead over China in AI, arguing that technological leadership will be crucial to global power. He acknowledged that some safeguards could be introduced but opposed efforts to significantly slow the industry’s development.
His comments come as AI safety concerns intensify. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei and other technology leaders, including OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Elon Musk, have backed calls for a more measured pace of AI development amid warnings about potential security and societal risks.
The debate highlights a growing divide between those pushing for rapid AI innovation and those calling for stronger safeguards to ensure the technology develops safely.
