Vice President Kashim Shettima has described the death of former Governor of old Gongola State and former Peoples Democratic Party chairman, Bamanga Muhammad Tukur, as a major loss to Nigeria and Africa.
Tukur, the Tafidan Adamawa, died on Saturday, September 12, 2026, aged 90, three days before his 91st birthday.
In a condolence message issued on Sunday, Shettima praised Tukur’s contributions to public administration, politics, business and Nigeria’s maritime sector.
He recalled Tukur’s leadership of the Nigerian Ports Authority from 1975 to 1982, during which he helped address the cement armada crisis and oversaw the development of Tin Can Island Port and the modernisation of several other ports.
Shettima also highlighted Tukur’s service as industries minister, PDP national chairman from 2012 to 2014, and his role in promoting African private sector development through the African Business Roundtable and NEPAD Business Group.
The Vice President extended condolences to Tukur’s family, the Adamawa State Government and the people of the state, describing him as a patriot and institution builder whose contributions would endure.
