Lithuania temporarily closed Vilnius Airport on Sunday after a possible drone was reported in the country’s airspace, prompting NATO to scramble at least one fighter jet.
The National Crisis Management Centre said the air alert was lifted and the airport reopened after about an hour.
A fighter jet was dispatched from Šiauliai, where the Italian Air Force is stationed as part of NATO’s Baltic Air Defence mission.
The incident comes amid repeated reports of drones entering the airspace of NATO’s eastern members during the conflict linked to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
A marathon taking place in Vilnius continued without interruption, organisers said.
