Adamawa Mourns as Governor Fintiri Receives Remains of Elder Statesman Bamanga Tukur in Yola

Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, on Saturday led the state government and members of the family of the late elder statesman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, in receiving his remains at the Lamido Aliyu Mustapha International Airport in Yola.

The former governor died on Saturday afternoon in Abuja, three days before his 91st birthday.

His death has plunged Adamawa State into mourning, as family members, government officials, political associates and sympathisers prepare to pay their final respects to the respected elder statesman.

The remains arrived at the airport at about 7.07 p.m., where Governor Fintiri, members of the deceased’s family and other senior government officials were present to receive them.

The Governor was accompanied by the first son of the deceased and Secretary to the Adamawa State Government, Barrister Auwal D. Tukur, alongside other members of the family and senior government officials.

The reception at the airport marked the return of the late elder statesman’s remains to his home state, where the final funeral rites are expected to take place.

Following the arrival, the remains were conveyed to the family residence, Tukur Lodge, in Yola, where they were laid in state ahead of the burial.

At Tukur Lodge, Governor Fintiri joined members of the bereaved family and other government officials in offering prayers for the deceased.

The prayers focused on asking Allah to forgive his shortcomings, show him mercy and grant him eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdausi.

The gathering also provided an opportunity for family members and associates to reflect on the life, service and contributions of the late elder statesman.

Alhaji Bamanga Tukur was a former Governor of Adamawa State during the Gongola era. He was also a prominent politician, businessman and elder statesman who played important roles in the political and public life of Nigeria.

Throughout his years in public service, he was known for his involvement in political affairs and his contributions to the development of the state and the country.

His death has brought an end to the life of a respected figure whose experience and participation in public affairs spanned several decades.

The Adamawa State Government and the deceased’s family are expected to continue with the funeral arrangements as residents and sympathisers prepare to honour his memory.

According to a statement on the burial arrangements, funeral prayers for the late elder statesman will be held at the Lamido’s Palace in Yola by 10 a.m. on Sunday, 13th September, 2026.

The funeral prayers are expected to be attended by members of the deceased’s family, government officials, traditional rulers, political associates, friends and sympathisers.

Following the prayers, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur will be laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites.

The people of Adamawa State continue to mourn the loss of the former governor and elder statesman, while prayers are being offered for the repose of his soul and comfort for the bereaved family.
