Borno State — At least 25 family members of Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) members have surrendered to Nigerian troops amid intensified military operations against terrorist groups in Borno State.

The development followed separate surrender incidents recorded by troops operating in the Marte and Dikwa areas of the state.

According to military reports, four individuals surrendered on August 30 to troops of the 3 Battalion (Marine) at a combat outpost in Ladari. The individuals were reportedly from communities in Marte Local Government Area.

In a separate development on September 2, another 21 people, comprising seven women and 14 children, surrendered to troops of the 112 Task Force Battalion in Mafa, Dikwa Local Government Area.

The group reportedly fled the Yaganari terrorist enclave amid clashes between rival factions operating in the area before seeking refuge with Nigerian troops.

The surrendered individuals are expected to undergo screening and investigation by security authorities to establish their identities, backgrounds and any possible links to terrorist activities.

The latest development highlights the continued military pressure on terrorist groups operating in parts of Borno State and could provide security agencies with additional information about the activities and movements of insurgents in the region.
