The Citizens Security Awareness Initiative (CSAI), a civil society group, has warned against attempts to politicise the Armed Forces, saying such actions could erode public trust in the military.
In a statement by its Convener, Muktar Sadiq, the group dismissed claims linking the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, to partisan political activities as false and misleading.
Sadiq said Oluyede’s allegiance was to the Constitution and not to any political party, stressing that the Armed Forces must remain neutral and professional.
He said the CDS remained focused on protecting Nigeria’s territorial integrity and tackling terrorism, insurgency, banditry, kidnapping and other security threats.
The group urged politicians, activists and commentators to avoid statements capable of portraying the military as politically aligned, while calling on the media to verify information before publication.
Sadiq also urged Nigerians to support the Armed Forces and other security agencies in maintaining peace and stability across the country.
