MOTM Alebiosu Addresses Controversial Penalty in Blackburn Draw

Super Eagles defender Ryan Alebiosu has expressed his frustration over the controversial penalty decision that denied Blackburn Rovers victory in their Championship opener against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Alebiosu, who was named Man of the Match, played the full 90 minutes as Blackburn surrendered a 2-1 lead to draw 2-2 at Molineux on Friday.

Blackburn appeared set to secure all three points before referee Farai Hallam awarded Wolves a stoppage-time penalty after the ball struck Alebiosu’s arm from a cross.

Alebiosu said he believed the incident occurred outside the penalty area, but the decision stood. Raul Jimenez converted the spot-kick to rescue a point for Wolves.

“We’re frustrated. The boys have done everything to get the three points. The ball has been played, and I thought I was outside the box. Obviously the decision has gone against us,” Alebiosu said.

Blackburn manager Tony Mowbray also questioned the decision, saying still images appeared to show that the incident occurred outside the box.

Despite the disappointment, Alebiosu praised his teammates for their effort and expressed confidence that Blackburn can have a strong campaign if they maintain the level of performance displayed against Wolves.

“If we play like that every week, we will go far in the table,” the defender said.

Blackburn will now turn their attention to their next Championship fixture as they seek their first victory of the new season.
