The United States has recorded its largest-ever outbreak of cyclosporiasis, with more than 10,400 confirmed cases and two deaths, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The outbreak has spread across 15 states, with Michigan reporting the highest number of infections. Health officials say both deaths involved people with serious underlying health conditions.

Investigators have linked many cases to contaminated iceberg lettuce supplied by Taylor Farms de Mexico, prompting recalls and an ongoing FDA investigation.

Cyclosporiasis is a parasitic illness spread through contaminated food or water. Common symptoms include prolonged diarrhea, stomach cramps, nausea, fatigue, and loss of appetite.

The CDC says the investigation is still ongoing as officials work to identify all sources of the outbreak.
