The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested five suspects in separate intelligence-led operations over alleged burglary and possession of suspected cannabis, recovering stolen household items, valuables, and illicit substances.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) intercepted three suspects during a routine patrol in Doya Quarters, Bauchi, after acting on reasonable suspicion. A search of the tricycle conveying the suspects led to the recovery of assorted new shoes, clothing, jewellery, a 6kg gas cylinder, a 32-inch LG television, and a tabletop gas cooker.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects allegedly conspired with another individual, who is currently at large, to burgle a residence in Unguwar Sarakuna. Police later traced the owner of the house, who identified the recovered items as stolen property and reported that additional valuables, including clothing and a gold earring, were still missing.

In a separate operation carried out on the same day, police operatives arrested two additional suspects for allegedly being in possession of suspected cannabis. The command said the arrests form part of its ongoing efforts to combat drug-related offences and other criminal activities across the state.

The Bauchi State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property through intelligence-driven policing and urged residents to continue providing credible information that will aid the fight against crime. The command added that investigations are ongoing and that all suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
