The Adamawa State Monthly Sanitation Taskforce has intensified enforcement of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise in Yola, apprehending defaulters and compelling them to clean up blocked culverts and drainages.
The taskforce moved through Yola on Saturday in two teams, with one team covering Yola South and the other monitoring Yola North, as the state government stepped up efforts to ensure compliance with the sanitation directive across the metropolis.

Defaulters were issued on the spot sanctions and directed to either clean their immediate business environments or risk having their wares and other business items confiscated by the taskforce.
Speaking during the exercise, the Chairman of Yola South Local Government Area, Barrister Abdulhamid Alkali Aminu, reaffirmed the council’s commitment to revitalising the monthly sanitation exercise in the area.
According to him, the renewed sanitation drive would help promote a cleaner and healthier environment for residents. He expressed appreciation to Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for the support that had enabled effective administration in Yola South.
Aminu also commended Governor Fintiri for reintroducing the statewide monthly sanitation exercise, describing the initiative as timely and necessary.
He urged residents of Yola South and other parts of the state to embrace environmental and personal hygiene, stressing that cleanliness was both a civic responsibility and consistent with religious teachings.
The Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Mohammed Sadiq Wali, also expressed satisfaction with the level of compliance recorded during the monitoring exercise.
Wali said the monthly sanitation exercise had come to stay, noting that an increasing number of residents were now participating voluntarily without coercion.
He particularly commended residents of Shagari for their high level of compliance, citing their efforts in desilting drainages and fumigating their immediate environment.
The Commissioner further appreciated officials of the Ministry of Environment, the Adamawa State Environmental Protection Agency, ADSEPA, and security agencies, particularly the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, for supporting the taskforce during the exercise.
Wali disclosed that the next phase of the sanitation exercise would be conducted in Maiha and surrounding communities, in line with the administration’s commitment to ensuring inclusive environmental sanitation coverage across Adamawa State.
