Abuja — Nigeria has officially ushered in a new chapter in its diplomatic relations with India as Ambassador Saidu D. Muhammad assumes office as the country’s new High Commissioner to the Republic of India.
The seasoned career diplomat is expected to lead Nigeria’s diplomatic mission in New Delhi, where he will work to deepen bilateral cooperation between the two Commonwealth nations. His appointment comes at a time when both countries are seeking to expand collaboration in trade, investment, education, healthcare, technology, energy, and defense.

Before taking up his new assignment, Ambassador Muhammad was received by India’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Abhishek Singh, in a symbolic meeting that underscored the strong and enduring relationship between both countries.
As Nigeria’s chief diplomatic representative in India, Ambassador Muhammad will oversee efforts to promote Nigeria’s economic interests, strengthen political and diplomatic engagement, facilitate business partnerships, and provide consular services to Nigerians residing in India.
Nigeria and India have maintained cordial diplomatic relations for decades, with India remaining one of Nigeria’s key trading partners and a major investor in sectors including pharmaceuticals, manufacturing, information technology, agriculture, and energy.

Observers believe the new High Commissioner’s tenure presents an opportunity to further enhance strategic cooperation and unlock new areas of partnership that will benefit both nations.
